If you’ve ever worried that your penis was too little, you’re not alone; many men worry about the length or girth of their member. It’s even been given a name: ‘small penis anxiety.’
It can become serious when a man is so dissatisfied and self-conscious about the size or form of his penis that it has a significant influence on his sex life. He could be diagnosed with Body Dysmorphic Disorder if this happens.
But the truth is that the great majority of men have completely normal penises. They simply require some reassurance.

That’s why a group of experts in the United Kingdom decided it was past time to compile proof for all of the men who visit their doctors with concerns about their penis being too tiny. The researchers gathered data from over 15,500 males of all ages and races, including penile length and girth measurements. All of the measurements they used were taken by a medical professional, so there was no way the males could be lying about their penis size.
Which penis size is normal?
After compiling all of the data, the researchers calculated averages and drew graphs depicting the vast variety of normal penis diameters. The length of erect penises varies from 9.5cm to 16cm. Only a few percent of males have penises that are smaller or larger than that.

The average length of a flaccid penis is 9.16 cm. The average lengthens to 13.24 cm when stretched. That’s quite close to the 13.12 cm average erect length.
The average girth measurements for flaccid penises were 9.31 cm and 11.66 cm for erect penises.
The researchers also looked into whether the size of a man’s penis was related to his other physical characteristics. Contrary to popular opinion, there was little evidence that men with larger feet or heavier bodies have bigger penises. However, there was a correlation between height and penis length, with taller men having longer erect penises, according to the study.
According to the study, only about 2% of men have a penis that is abnormally small, measuring less than 6 cm when flaccid and less than 9.5 cm when extended. A micropenis, on the other hand, is defined as having a flaccid length of less than 5.2 cm and a stretched length of less than 8.5 cm. A micropenis is extremely uncommon — just about 1% of men have one.
